FIFA says tainted former president Ganesh Thapa remains banned from footballing activities

World football governing body FIFA has said former ANFA President Ganesh Thapa, who has been banned for 10 years, should not engage in any kind of football-related activity.

In a letter addressed to ANFA General Secretary Indraman Tuladhar on Wednesday, Kenny Jean-Marie, FIFA Chief Member Associations Officer and Vahid Kardany, AFC Deputy General Secretary reminded ANFA of the sanction imposed on the former president.

"As long as the ban in question remains in place, FIFA expects ANFA and its members not knowingly permit Ganesh Thapa to engage in any kind of  football-related activity, whether at national or international level (administrative, sporting, or otherwise)," the letter stated.

The letter said should Thapa violate the decision by FIFA, he should be reported to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee for further appropriate action.

In 2015, the adjudicatory chamber of FIFA Ethics Committee had imposed a 10 year sanction on Thapa for offering and accepting gifts and other benefits and involving in bribery and corruption. He was banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at both national and international level (administrative, sports or other) for a period of ten years as well as ordered him to pay of fine amounting to CHF 20,000.
